AU Commission congratulates Senegal on Afcon 2025 victory and praises Morocco’s hosting

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has congratulated Senegal on their victory in the Africa Cup of Nations final, describing the 1-0 win over Morocco as a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased the very best of African football.

Youssouf praised both finalists for their quality and competitiveness, noting that the clash reflected continental pride and global stature. He highlighted Afcon’s role as a unifying force, bringing Africans together across cultures and generations through the power of the game.

The AU chief commended all participating nations for elevating standards and demonstrating resilience and talent, while stressing that the spirit of sportsmanship ultimately prevailed despite moments of tension in the final. He said the successful hosting of Afcon underscored Africa’s growing ability to stage world-class sporting events that inspire admiration worldwide.

He expressed gratitude to King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan government, and the people of Morocco for their hospitality and professionalism in delivering the tournament. Having attended the final in Rabat, Youssouf lauded the organization and atmosphere as exemplary.
