Arsenal Blow Bayern Away to Stay Perfect in Champions League
Arsenal piled more momentum on their European charge with a commanding 3–1 win over Bayern Munich at the Emirates, keeping their 100% Champions League record intact and handing the German giants their first defeat of the season. Noni Madueke finally grabbed his first goal for the club, Gabriel Martinelli sealed it late on, and Mikel Arteta’s side now look like a team properly hunting silverware on two fronts.
The Gunners came flying out the traps and struck first on 22 minutes. Jurrien Timber met Bukayo Saka’s corner with a thumping header — Arsenal’s 10th goal from a corner already this season, more than any other side across Europe’s top five leagues. Bayern was rattled early doors, second best in most duels, but still managed to pinch an equaliser as Joshua Kimmich sprayed a superb diagonal to Serge Gnabry, who squared for 17-year-old Lennart Karl to bundle home. It was annoyingly the first goal Arsenal has let in in Europe this season.
But Arsenal barely blinked. Arteta turned to his so-called “finishers” and they did exactly what he keeps banging on about. Riccardo Calafiori drilled a wicked cross into the mixer and Madueke darted in, prodding past Manuel Neuer to open his account at long last. The celebration said everything — proper relief, proper confidence boost.
Bayern tried to summon something but had nothing to offer. Harry Kane hardly touched the ball, Michael Olise drifted around without causing much bother, and Vincent Kompany’s side looked nothing like an unbeaten outfit. Arsenal sensed the moment and twisted the knife. Eberechi Eze chipped a lovely ball over the backline, Martinelli rounded a stranded Neuer — who honestly was in no man’s land — and tucked away the clincher. Bayern beaten, Neuer flapping at thin air, Emirates bouncing.
What looked like a nightmare week on paper now reads like a stroll. Four past Spurs, three past Bayern, Chelsea up next — and Arteta’s men barely broke stride. He made just two tweaks to the derby XI, bringing in Cristhian Mosquera and Myles Lewis-Skelly, and again the squad depth came through. With Martin Ødegaard, Martinelli and Madueke all back fit, Arsenal’s front line is starting to look properly loaded.
The numbers tell the story. One defeat all season. Top of the Premier League. Top of the Champions League. Key players returning, confidence sky-high, and a bit of swagger creeping back into their play. You can see why plenty think this might finally be the year they end their trophy drought.
As for Bayern, young Karl was the one bright spark, lively on only his second Champions League start. But beyond that, they was outplayed, outmuscled at set pieces, and never really found their usual rhythm. Kane and Olise cut frustrated figures all night.
Declan Rice walked away with player of the match after bossing midfield like he owned the place. And Arsenal march on — looking sharper, hungrier, and more dangerous with each passing week.
